Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the most powerful procedures plastic surgeons perform. Located right in the middle of the face, even subtle changes to your nose can have a huge impact on your appearance. Often, the changes brought about by a well-performed rhinoplasty reach far beyond just skin deep.

"An unattractive nose cannot be hidden under clothes. Especially in younger patients, there are fewer surgeries that have such profound effects on a patient’s confidence and self esteem."

Rhinoplasty is one of the most sought after forms of cosmetic surgery. Typically, there are two reasons to be considering a nose alteration: aesthetics and functionality.

Aesthetics

Noses can be out of place naturally, too large or too long, with an abnormal nostril pattern, bump, or hook. They can also be misshapen after injury, causing a permanent asymmetric appearance.

The standard reason to seek rhinoplasty is to improve the profile of the face by altering the shape and form of the nose to one more pleasing to the eye. If you’ve always been uncomfortable with your nose, or broken it due to injury, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty.

Functionality

Through either genetic defect or injury, the nose can sometimes be shaped in such a way that it constricts breathing or complicates sinus problems. Such abnormalities can be a consistent cause of frustration for those who have them, and can disrupt the way the body is designed to function by forcing breathing through the mouth.

If you feel your nose is constricting your normal breathing pattern, you should consult with Dr. Horowitz to see if rhinoplasty might be the best solution.

Procedures and Considerations

There is no “one-size fits all” rhinoplasty. Dr. Horowitz works to discover what bothers each patient about his or her nose and then tailors the procedure to address those needs. Since not every face is the same, Dr. Horowitz is careful to ensure that not only will your nose itself look good after surgery, but that it is harmonious with the shape of your face and your other facial features.

Many rhinoplasties can be performed without any visible incisions, but a small incision at the base of the nose may be required.

Recovery and Results

There will be bruising and swelling after rhinoplasty; the degree to which depends on whether or not the nasal bones are addressed.

Although the bruising will resolve within two weeks, minimal swelling will linger, so your result will improve as the weeks go by.
