Breast Lift

Breast Lift in Baltimore, MD

It is very common for women’s breasts to succumb to gravity or the effects of aging, eventually losing their youthful shape and fullness. Breast lift is designed to elevate them into a perkier and more attractive position.

Breast Lift Candidates

Breast lift may be appropriate for you if you are generally happy with the size of your breasts, but not with the way they sag, lack firmness or have lost fullness and volume. Common complaints also include nipples that have descended below the breast crease and point downward.

Candidacy is determined at a surgical consultation with Dr. Horowitz, during which he will examine your breasts and ask you about your goals and expectations of the procedure. He does not recommend breast lift to women who are planning to have children in the near future, so if you are considering getting pregnant, it’s best to postpone your breast lift until after you give birth.

If you are interested in increasing the size of your breasts as well as lifting them, explore your breast implant options with Dr. Horowitz. Or, if you would like to reduce the size of your breasts as well as lift them, ask about breast reduction surgery.

Other Considerations

What Happens During Surgery

Breast lift is an outpatient procedure performed at our surgical facility. You will receive general anesthesia so you can sleep comfortably during the surgery. Dr. Horowitz makes breast lift incisions in one of several patterns:

  • Anchor – around the areola, extending down toward the natural crease of the breast and horizontally along the crease
  • Lollipop – around the areola and down toward the crease of the breast
  • Circumareolar – limited to around the areola

Baltimore breast lift surgeon Dr. Horowitz removes excess breast skin and elevates the nipple and areola to a higher position on the breast mound, leaving them attached to the underlying tissue (to preserve sensitivity and ability to breastfeed). The breast gland is sculpted so the breast mound is rounder and higher on the chest wall. The incisions are closed with sutures and the breasts are bandaged.

Your breasts will be swollen and sore after surgery, but pain medication can alleviate any pain. Dr. Horowitz will recommend that you wear a support bra (similar to a sports bra) for four weeks after your procedure as your breasts heal. He will schedule several follow-up appointments to check your progress, and will clear your return to work and your normal routine within a few weeks of surgery.
