Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants have an outer shell made of silicone rubber and are filled with cohesive silicone gel. Silicone implants feel very similar to breast tissue and are less prone to the occasional adverse effect seen with saline implants, such as visible ripples beneath the skin. Because the size of silicone implants cannot be adjusted after placement, slightly larger incisions may be required to accommodate the implants. After a 14-year absence from the market, silicone breast implants became available again in 2006. Mentor and Allergan, the two companies which manufacture silicone implants, have both concluded definitively through long-term clinical trials in cooperation with the FDA that silicone implants are safe and effective. Both saline and silicone implants are now available that vary in the degree of projection for any given size. Current FDA regulations require that breast augmentation patients must be at least 22 years of age to get silicone implants.

Are You Ready to Feel Confident in Your Body? Let’s Get Started

"I listen to my patients’ concerns and devise unique treatment plans with their input, rather than pushing my ideas upon them. I make sure patients have realistic expectations. It’s my job to help them meet their goals while also being honest about what they can and cannot expect from any given procedure."

Dr. Jeffrey Horowitz

"I see all patients at least twice before the surgery and at every postoperative visit. I’m with my patients every step of the way to ensure they have a positive experience throughout their journey with us."

Dr. Jeffrey Horowitz

"I am dedicated to my patients. They all get my cell phone number and are encouraged to call or text me with concerns, day or night."
